We had a problem with our shed workshop flat felt roof leaking and needed a quick repair.

The cost of replacing roof felt under tiles will be included in the overall tiled roof roof repair costs. From inside cut across the lowest part of the damage from rafter to rafter cut a piece of slaters felt 50 100mm wider than the rafter rafter size and taper this both sides slide the tapered edge into the cut and pin the sides to the rafters using lengths of batten. Where wind driven rain is working under the roof and causing leaks then the felt will need to be replaced. Tiny holes in shingles are sneaky because they can cause rot a leaky roof and other damage for years before you notice the obvious signs of a leak.

Use hammer claws to help remove all nails from the shingles over the hole. Screw the batten in place nailing may dislodge tiles. Slip a pry bar under the shingles above the affected area to pull out the nails holding the damaged shingles. Many roofs function quite well without any roofing felt so small tears and damage to roofing felt are not in themselves reasons to spend money on repairing it.

Instead of replacing the felt roof we decided to use a product call. You might find holes left over from a satellite dish or antenna mounting brackets or just about anything. Take up the shingles over the hole. Make sure the caulk is rated for the temperatures and apply it liberally so you don t create a water pocket.
