Most hard wired smoke detectors have a connection from the electrical wires to the smoke detectors that engages and disengages.

The main supply is 120v ac in us and 230v ac in eu. All of the smoke detector wiring is connected to the fire alarm zone on the panel and is fully supervised as if it were a single run. When connecting smoke alarms to each other the wire harness should connect to both the wires that run from the breaker panel power source and the wires that run between both alarms.

Mount smoke detectors at least 4 inches from wall or on the wall with the top of the detector within 4 inches and 12 inches of the highest point of the ceiling. A single 2 or 4 conductor fire wire is pulled from the main panel location to the last smoke detector in the system the end of line smoke.

In our basic wiring diagram a single or multiple heat and smoke detectors are installed in the home by connecting the live line or hot neutral ground and an interconnected wire to the alarm. Gently tuck the excess wire length and wire connectors into the remodeling box. Along the way the wire passes the other smoke alarms in the system the looped smokes. On some models the wire connections are made to a mounting plate that has a plug in socket into which the smoke detector is plugged.
